Why Am I Doing This?

For myself, it started as a way to prioritize and filter my self-perpetuating to-read queue and stay in touch with the expansive swath of writing and writers across time without having to take the time to read each offering from cover to cover. But in the midst of this I found numerous applications to other people.

First and foremost, I want to share my passion for books and for reading with others in hopes that it will be infectious. Second, I want to prove that one can easily read twenty-five pages a day, despite the seemingly elusive dream of free time these days. Third, I want to showcase the incredible breadth of writing available—across time, across genre, across language. I want people to be more and more aware of the millennia of great books and not just what’s on display on the bestseller racks.

So I made a pact with myself. I started a free blog and vowed to read and comment on twenty-five pages of a different book every day for a year. The commentary should fit on a single page. The selections could be books I’ve read or wanted to read, so long as they aren’t something that would be available for purchase at the grocery store.
